Taipei-A truck crashed into six vehicles at a work site on National Freeway No. 1 on Tuesday morning, causing the death of one person and injuring two others.
The truck driver, identified only by his surname of Lee (?), hit construction vehicles parked at the site on a southbound section of the freeway in Zaoqiao, Miaoli County, at which around 30 workers were repairing the road's surface, according to freeway traffic police.
Six engineering vehicles were hit, and three people were injured, traffic police officer Chang Hung-chieh (???) said.
Engineers at the site speculated that the driver had dozed off when his truck hit a traffic control car and then collided with a road roller and other vehicles.
Those injured during the collision were rushed to a nearby hospital.
One of the injured, a 31-year-old man surnamed Weng (?), was found to have suffered an open bone fracture in his left thigh and other lacerations around his body, and he died when emergency efforts to keep him alive were unsuccessful.
The cause of the accident is being investigated.
