2 S. Korean LoL teams to compete in main stage of this year’s MSI

SEOUL, Two South Korean teams are set to compete in the main stage of the 2024 Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), an annual international League of Legends (LoL) tournament, the event's organizer said Tuesday. Gen.G will play against Fnatic from the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC), the LoL league encompassing Europe, Middle East and Africa, on Wednesday and T1 will go up against G2 Esports, also from the LEC, on Friday for the 2024 MSI's bracket stage in Chengdu, China, according to Riot Games. Gen.G was the champion of this year's LoL Champions Korea (LCK) spring split and T1 finished runner-up. Eight teams, including Gen G. and T1, will compete in the bracket stage for this year's MSI title. The winner of the MSI, which will be determined on May 19, will advance to the LoL World Championship, set to take place in the second half of the year. T1, led by the star player Faker, or Lee Sang-hyeok, won the LoL Championship last year, clinching a record fourth title in the popular esports tournament. G en.G won the LoL Worlds twice, in 2014 and 2017. LoL is a popular multiplayer online battle arena video game developed by American video game developer Riot Games in 2009, where two teams of five players battle in head-to-head combat to destroy the opponent's "nexus," a large structure deep inside the enemy base.
