Taipei, Three local men have been arrested and held incommunicado in connection with the discovery of more than 300 Kilograms of ketamine, according to a statement by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office Monday.
The suspects, surnamed Sun, Huang and Liu, who are 42, 49 and 37-years old, respectively, were apprehended during a stakeout in Taoyuan's Zhongli District on Nov. 20, when they went to pick up the third-grade drugs which were smuggled into the country in a container from Shenzhen, China, the statement said.
In addition, authorities also confiscated 14 smartphones, an air pistol, approximately 90 grams of ketamine, NT$2 million (US$65,062), 4,100 Chinese Yuan, 45,000 Hong Kong Dollars, a BMW sports car, five expensive watches, and other items along with the three suspects, the statement added.
The ketamine, discovered by prosecutors and customs officials on Nov. 18, weighed a total of 322.97kg and was divided into 16 packets hidden in two of 38 bags of polypropylene plastic in the container, the statement said.
The suspects have been detained after approval by Taoyuan District Court on Nov. 21 as the investigation continues to determine whether there are other accomplices and origin of the drugs, the statement said.
