Taipei--Afternoon thunderstorms are predicted around Taiwan on Saturday, with daytime highs hitting 33-35 degrees Celsius, the Central Weather Bureau said.
Those in western Taiwan or mountainous parts of the country should especially stay vigilant for downpours, strong gusts and thunder strikes, the bureau said.
Wu Der-rong (???), a meteorologist and adjunct associate professor of atmospheric sciences at National Central University, said a similar weather pattern could continue through next Saturday.
During this period, southeastern winds will send moisture into the country, causing showers in eastern Taiwan and thunderstorms in the west.
Chances for extreme hot weather is unlikely, he said, adding that highs will be 32-34 degrees in eastern Taiwan and 33-35 degrees in western Taiwan.
