A group of experts inspected the airport line of Taipei's mass rapid transit system on Saturday and Sunday. The Transportation Ministry has said previously that the line, which has been in the works for more than ten years, will be inaugurated between February and March, 2017.
In order to pave the way for this weekend's inspection, workers scrambled to deal with some 4,000 flaws which were identified back in August. They fixed about 99% of the problems, making it possible to move on to the inspection and testing phase.
The Bureau of High Speed Rail under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications said that overall the experts were satisfied with the current state of the new line. An additional series of tests were scheduled for Sunday afternoon to assess the equipment and operators' ability to deal with emergency situations, communication signals and electromechanical systems.
The results of Sunday's tests are expected on Monday
