AIT chairman in Taiwan on official visit

American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Chairman James Moriarty is in Taiwan on a six-day official visit. The AIT is the de facto US embassy in Taiwan in the absence of formal diplomatic ties between the two sides.

Taiwan's foreign ministry said on Monday that Moriarty will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen and other government officials to exchange views on issues of mutual concern. The veteran diplomat will also attend an international conference sponsored by the joint US-Taiwan Global Cooperation and Training Framework.

This is Moriarty's second trip to Taiwan since he became chairman last October. During his trip, he will meet with a number of senior political and business figures in Taiwan.
