Taipei, Sept. 18 (CNA) An American man suspected of murdering a Canadian citizen in New Taipei last month denied any knowledge Tuesday about the killing, although he has admitted that he met with the victim prior to his death.
The 37-year-old Oren Shlomo Mayer was repatriated Monday from the Philippines to Taiwan and taken to the Criminal Investigation Bureau for questioning.
Mayer, along with fellow American Ewart Odane Bent, aged 30, allegedly killed Canadian Ramgahan Sanjay Ryan and dismembered his body, which was discovered on a riverbank under Zhongzheng Bridge in the city's Yonghe District Aug. 22.
Mayer fled Taiwan after the murder, and was arrested in an apartment in Cainta on the Philippines' Luzon Island Sept. 5 following a tipoff provided by Taiwanese police.
Bent was arrested by police in Taiwan Aug. 25.
The suspect reiterated that he was not aware of what happened after that.
Following his questioning by the Criminal Investigation Bureau, Mayer was taken to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office for further investigation.
