CAL, EVA Air flights to Osaka remain suspended through Sept. 13

Taipei, China Airlines (CAL) and EVA Airways said Monday that they cannot resume flights to Osaka until Sept. 13 as the airport there is still closed due to damage caused by Typhoon Jebi.

CAL has also canceled flight CI159 from Osaka to Taoyuan on Sept. 14.

The two Taiwanese carriers had planned to resume services to Osaka on Tuesday, when Kansai International Airport was expected to reopen, but the recovery efforts from severe flooding at the airport were still underway in the wake of the storm.

Meanwhile, the hundreds of Taiwanese tourists who were stranded in Japan after the powerful typhoon struck there on Sept. 4 have all returned home, Taiwan's Tourism Bureau said Monday.

It said that as of Sunday, 2,247 tourists in 83 groups, who were planning to travel from Taiwan to Japan, had canceled their trips.
