Chinese tourists injured in bus accident in southern Taiwan

Taipei-- "Several people" were injured Saturday when a tour bus carrying visitors from China hit a bridge in Taiwan's southern port city of Kaohsiung, authorities said.

Some local media reports put the number of injured at 21, including three said to be in serious conditions.

Apple Daily said the group of tourists came from the eastern Chinese city of Ningbo.

The accident occurred when the bus was going under a railway bridge with not enough clearing. Images taken at the scene showed the bus stuck under the bridge, with part of its top smashed in.

Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital said that it had received 8 people injured in the accident as of 10:50 a.m., adding that none of their injuries were life-threatening.
