CORONAVIRUS/Man who developed thrombus from AZ vaccine receives NT$1 million

The Ministry of Health and Welfare unveiled on Friday the latest list of relief fund recipients who suffered adverse reactions to vaccination shots for COVID-19, one of whom was an AstraZeneca (AZ) recipient who received NT$1 million (US$32,829).

According to Central Epidemic Command Center spokesperson Lo Yi-chun (???), only five of 90 applicants were considered qualified to receive payouts by the MOHW's Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP), including four AZ recipients who received from NT$35,000 to NT$1 million.

The recipient of NT$1 million was a man from Kaohsiung in his 20s who developed a thrombus and low thrombocytes after receiving an AZ vaccine jab, Lo said.

One individual was awarded NT$65,000 after an adverse reaction to the Pfizer-BNT vaccine, Lo added.

Another man in his 20s developed a sore throat, fever and muscle pain after receiving an AZ vaccine jab. However, based on how long he had the symptoms the VICP concluded it was unlikely they were caused by the vaccination, though it still awarded him NT$50,000.
