Deputy Mayor Yu: Local youths were invited to express their opinions

While listening to the Participation and Actual Practice Presentation of the Taoyuan City Youth Inquiry Committee when chairing the municipal administration meeting on October 12th 2016, Taoyuan City Deputy Mayor Yu Chien-Hua expressed that the Department of Youth Affairs have invited local youths to offer their opinions regarding city governance and communicate with various departments. Recommendations will be applied to actual policies, providing the youths with better services.

Deputy Mayor Yu said that the objectives for establishing the Taoyuan City Youth Inquiry Committee were to invite local youths to provide their views on city administration and establish a system of communication with various city departments. A total of three general meetings have been held to date. To provide better focus and contents to various recommendations, the Taoyuan City Youth Inquiry Committee is allowed to visit various city departments and agencies for pre-communication and enhance overall effectiveness.

Deputy Mayor Yu also instructed various departments and agencies to provide their full support towards policy feedback platforms for youths and its relevant meetings. The aim is to apply good recommendations into practical policies and benefit the youths of the entire city.

During the presentation, Director-general Chen Chia-Chun of the Department of Youth Affairs pointed out that the objectives for establishing the Taoyuan City Youth Inquiry Committee were to strengthen public participation and communication systems for youths, train professionals, and improve the innovativeness and feasibility of city administration and policies. The Youth Inquiry Committee is composed of students or young working adults between 16 and 40 years of age and holds meetings once every three months. The Committee is subdivided into various teams with different focuses, namely city administration and construction, employment and entrepreneurship, education and culture, social welfare and environmental conservation, and ethnic diversity.

Director-general Chen expressed that the Taoyuan City Youth Inquiry Committee operates by holding team meetings, team communication meetings, and regular general meetings where the Committee discusses city administration with city departmental directors and representatives and proposes relevant recommendations. A total of three regular general meetings have been held to date.
