Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lawmakers have set up a coalition on immigrant affairs. Over forty DPP lawmakers have already joined the coalition, which aims to create a friendly environment for new arrivals to Taiwan.
Many recent immigrants to the country come from Southeast Asian nations. DPP lawmaker Yeh Yi-jin said Tuesday that her party must advance policies that make these new arrivals a force for the government's efforts to foster closer ties with the region.
Meanwhile, lawmaker Lee Chun-yi says the coalition will work on immigration and nationality laws to give immigrants more space in Taiwan.
