Employee arrested for trying to stab New Taipei City labor official

Taipei, Police on Thursday arrested a city government employee who attempted to stab the deputy chief of the New Taipei Labor Affairs Department earlier in the day.

The incident occurred on the seventh floor of the New Taipei City government building at around 8 a.m.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect was waiting for Wu Jenyu near an elevator, carrying a concealed knife, and approached him as he got off.

Wu immediately sensed danger, and he ran to his office, while other employees tried to subdue the woman, the eyewitnesses said.

The police were called and they arrested the woman, who works at a city government employment services center across the street from New Taipei City Hall, the eyewitnesses said.

According to the labor department, the woman had filed numerous complaints against the deputy commissioner in the past, saying that he was constantly picking on her about work attitude.

The department said its personnel office never took the complaints seriously, believing that they were nothing but misunderstandings between the two.

The suspect is currently being held by police for questioning.
