Fire breaks out at Taipei’s Tatung University, quickly put out

A fire broke out at Taipei’s Tatung University Monday afternoon, but was extinguished within 30 minutes, according to Taipei City Fire Department.

The fire was reported at 3:06 p.m. on Monday.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, fire and thick smoke were coming from the building which houses the university’s Innovation and Incubation Center.

As the school had evacuated on-campus students, faculty and staff, firefighters were able to put out the fire within 30 minutes at 3:38 p.m.

According to the city’s fire department, four individuals were evacuated from the building where the fire started and no injuries were reported.

The department said the fire started in a classroom used for experiments.

The fire damaged equipment and approximately 60 square meters of the first floor of the building and 30 square meters of the second floor.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, the fire department said.
