Fishing boat shattered in half off New Taipei; 1 injured

Taipei, A fishing boat was shattered in half when it went aground on the New Taipei coast early Friday morning, leaving one of its seven crew members slightly injured, according to the police and the Coast Guard Administration (CGA).

The injured person, a 49-year-old crewman from China surnamed Chen (?), had some scrapes on his knees and was sent to the Jinshan Branch of National Taiwan University Hospital to be treated, police said.

The Chinese crew member along with the ship's 54-year-old captain from Taiwan surnamed Lin (?) and five crew members from Vietnam were rescued at 5:30 a.m. Friday, police said.

According to the OGA, the boat was found having run aground off the coast of Yehliu in New Taipei's Wanli District at 4:56 a.m. Friday after it lost power and was initially shattered by strong waves.
