Taipei, A foreign couple started their lunar new Year of the Dog on a lucky note, winning NT$2 million (US$68,716) from a NT$200 scratch lottery card Friday.
According to Taiwan Lottery Co., the couple visited Lungshan Temple in Taipei to experience Lunar New Year festivities in Taiwan.
They were told at the temple that people visit on the first day of the lunar new year to pray for prosperity and luck.
Lo and behold, the couple found themselves holding a winning scratch ticket after leaving the temple and buying two tickets at a nearby lottery store.
The couple told their story, saying that they did not win anything with the first ticket but won the top prize with the second one.
The couple expressed the opinion that getting one's blessings at the temple during the holiday "really works."
Also Friday, a Kaohsiung family visited nearby Taitung and bought a winning scratch lottery ticket for NT$2,000, giving them a payout of NT$1 million.
