Former President Ma back in Taiwan after U.S. visit

Former President Ma Ying-jeou (???) returned to Taiwan on Wednesday after concluding a five-day trip to the United States.

Ma was in the United States at the invitation of the Liu Institute for Asia and Asian Studies at the University of Notre Dame, where he spoke on Taiwan's new role in Asia and the world at its second Asia Leadership Forum on Sunday.

He also met with Taiwanese students and expatriates during the trip.

Ma's U.S. visit followed a just-concluded trip to Malaysia, during which he attended the World Chinese Economic Summit in Melaka, held on Nov. 16 and 17.

That was Ma's first overseas visit since leaving office on May 20 after completing two four-year terms.
