Taipei--Mild and warm weather is forecast for all parts of Taiwan on Saturday and Sunday, the first two days of the Lunar New Year, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Saturday.
Most of Taiwan can expect partly sunny weather on New Year's Day on Saturday, with occasional rain likely in coastal areas of northern Taiwan and mountainous and coastal areas of eastern Taiwan, according to the CWB.
Daytime highs on Saturday were expected to reach 25 to 27 degrees Celsius in the sunny western half of Taiwan and 24 to 25 degrees in the partly cloudy east.
The bureau cautioned, however, that temperatures in western Taiwan will differ by more than 10 degrees between day and night.
There will also be fog in the western part of the island and in the Kinmen and Matsu islands, causing low visibility, the bureau said, and it urged people traveling to and from those areas to pay attention to weather warnings.
It also forecast rough waves in coastal areas off eastern Taiwan, including Green Island and Orchid Island, and along the Hengchun Peninsula in Pingtung County, and suggested that people avoid seaside activities in those areas.
The weather will turn wet and cold around Taiwan on Tuesday under the influence of seasonal northeasterly winds, with the mercury in coastal areas of northern Taiwan likely to drop to 13 to 14 degrees, former CWB Director-General Daniel Wu (???) said.
The seasonal winds will weaken by Friday when the weather warms up, with only eastern Taiwan expected to see sporadic showers, Wu said.
