Guishan team wins inaugural MLB CUP Taiwan championship

Taipei, Aug. 5 (CNA) A baseball team from Guishan, Taoyuan on Sunday won the inaugural MLB CUP Taiwan, a tournament made up of 12 teams of players aged 9 to 10 years old from various cities and counties around Taiwan, with an 11-7 victory over Dongyuan, Taipei.

The team got off to a good start, winning two games in the preliminary round to qualify for the next round. In the semifinal, the Guishan team defeated Xinggu of New Taipei Saturday.

Brilliant performances by the team's two pitchers, Wu Ming-che (???) and Sung Shu-huan (???), was attributed to Guishan's win in the final.

Starting pitcher Wu allowed eight hits with four earned runs and recorded two strikeouts over the first 3.1 innings during the final.

Wu also won a prize for hitting and for hitting the most home runs.

Relief pitcher Sung allowed four hits and three earned runs over 2.2 innings.

Thanks to a partnership between the American Major League Baseball (MLB) and Hua Nan Financial Holdings Co., Ltd., the first MLB CUP Taiwan was held Aug. 1-5, with the games broadcast exclusively by WinTV.
