The health minister, Chen Shih-chung, has called for Beijing to show goodwill as Taiwan continues to wait for an invitation to this year's World Health Assembly (WHA).
This year's meeting of the World Health Organization's convening body will take place in Geneva from May 22nd to 31st. Taiwan has attended the meeting as an observer for the past eight years. But this year China's boycott of the Tsai Ing-wen administration may mean Taiwan is not invited.
Chen told a legislative committee meeting on Thursday that Taiwan's participation in the WHA ensures the health of the country's public and is also part of Taiwan's responsibility to global health. Chen said the issue of Taiwan's attendance is a matter of the right to healthcare and is not a political issue.
