The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) issued torrential and heavy rain advisories on Friday for the eastern part of Taiwan, from Yilan County to the Hengchun Peninsula in Pingtung County, as well as Green Island and Orchid Island off Taiwan’s eastern coast.
The rain is a result of the outer fringes of Typhoon Aere, which is moving away from Taiwan in the Bashi Channel, according to the weather bureau.
The bureau forecast that mountainous areas in Hualien, Taitung and Pingtung in the direct path of the atmospheric pressure will receive torrential rain or extremely heavy rain on Friday, with Yilan and Hengchun seeing extremely heavy rain or heavy rain.
In addition, occasional heavy rain is expected in New Taipei, the northern coast of Keelung, low lying areas in Pingtung and mountainous areas in Kaohsiung, the CWB said, reminding residents to take precautions against possible landslides, mudslides, falling rock and flooding.
In terms of temperature, the highs in eastern Taiwan will be about 29 degrees Celsius while in the west it will reach 30 to 32 degrees. The lows will be between 24 and 25 degrees, the CWB forecast.
Starting on Sunday, northeasterly winds will head south, bringing more rain to northern and northeastern parts of Taiwan. The weather next week will remain unstable, the CWB predicted.
