Taipei, March 31 (CNA) The Central Weather Bureau on Friday morning issued a heavy rain alert for cities and counties in northern Taiwan and mountainous areas in Taichung City and Nantou County in central Taiwan.
The alert, which will come into effect at midday, means that sudden downpours coupled with thunder and strong gusts are expected in some areas in Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli and mountainous areas in Taichung and Nantou as a weather front approaches from the north.
The front will be followed by a continental cold air mass that will send the temperatures down later in the day.
From Friday night through Sunday morning, the lows in areas north of central Taiwan, including the northeast, will drop to 13 to 15 degrees Celsius while those in central and eastern Taiwan will be around 17 to 18 degrees, the bureau said.
Rain is expected to let up Saturday morning to give way to cool but mainly dry conditions in the first half of the four-day Tomb Sweeping Day weekend.
