Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp. (THSRC) announced Thursday that it will operate more trains on weekends starting in December to meet high demand for weekend travel.
Starting Dec. 2, eight additional high-speed trains will be available every Friday, Saturday and Sunday — five southbound and three northbound, the company said.
In its regular configuration, each high-speed train can carry close to 1,000 passengers.
Four of the trains will stop at Nangang, Taipei, Banqiao, Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan and Zuoying, while three will stop at Nangang, Taipei, Banqiao, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Taichung, Chiayi, Tainan and Zuoying, THSRC said.
The remaining one will be a northbound limited service departing from Taichung.
The new services will bring the total number of trains provided by THSRC to 960 per week, the company said, adding that bookings for the extra trains will be accepted from Nov. 5.
Meanwhile, THSRC said that every Monday morning from Dec. 2, northbound trains No. 502, 1504 and 1508 departing from Taichung will have seven non-reserved seat carriages — the first to third carriages and the ninth to 12th carriages, respectively.
