Taipei-The weather around Taiwan is forecast to remain hot and sunny on Tuesday as the island feels the impact of an approaching tropical depression, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
The CWB said the tropical depression is currently located about 800 kilometers southeast of Taiwan and moving in a west-northwest direction toward the Bashi Channel.
The tropical depression could be upgraded to a tropical storm, the bureau said, adding that it continues to monitor developments and does not rule out the possibility of issuing a sea warning once a tropical storm forms.
In the wake of the peripheral system around the tropical depression, Taiwan is expected to see suffocatingly hot weather with high temperatures expected to range between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius, the CWB said. The bureau cautioned the public to stay hydrated faced with the high temperatures.
Despite the sunny weather forecast, the CWB forecast sporadic showers in Hualien, Taitung as well as the Hengchun Peninsula, particularly during the afternoon. The bureau urged people who plan outdoor activities to take umbrellas and all necessary precautions.
Over the next two to three days, the tropical depression will continue to affect Taiwan, the CWB said, with coastal areas in eastern areas and the Hengchun Peninsula forecast to experience strong winds and choppy waves.
On Tuesday, the air quality around Taiwan and in the outlying islands of Matsu, Kinmen and Penghu is expected to be good to fair, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). More details are available on the EPA website at http:/goo.gl/hE50ct
