Taipei--The weather around Taiwan will remain sunny and hot on Sunday due to the continued influence of a Pacific high pressure system, with day time highs expected to reach 36-37 degrees Celsius in the greater Taipei area, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said.
In other areas, highs will range from 33-35 degrees, with afternoon thunderstorms forecast for mountainous areas, according to the bureau.
Meanwhile, a tropical depression east of the Philippines could become a tropical storm on Sunday night, potentially bringing heavy rain to parts of Taiwan on Monday and Tuesday when it passes through the Bashi Channel, according to the CWB.
The tropical depression is currently 880 km east-southeast of Oluanbi, Taiwan's southernmost tip, moving westerly at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour (kph), the bureau said, adding that a sea warning will be issued, once a tropical storm forms.
In addition, air quality was classified as unhealthy for sensitive groups in northern Taiwan on Sunday, while in the rest of the country the air was good to moderate, according to the Environmental Protection Administration's Taiwan Air Quality Monitoring Network at http://goo.gl/hE50ct.
