Veteran Taiwanese tennis star Hsieh Su-wei (???) and her partner Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus advanced to the second round of the women's doubles at the U.S. Open Wednesday, beating their opponents in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.
The 32-year-old Hsieh and 20-year-old Sabalenka defeated Darija Jurak of Croatia and Xenia Knoll of Switzerland 6-1 in the first set that lasted only 23 minutes.
Hsieh and Sabalenka then fought a seesaw battle in the second set before gaining a 4-3 lead in the seventh game, taking the set 6-3 and winning the match in 57 minutes.
In the women's singles, Hsieh won her match against Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in the first round Tuesday. She will face 29th-seeded Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia in the second round Thursday.
In addition to Hsieh, Latisha Chan (???) and her sister Chan Hao-ching (???) are also playing in the women's doubles and mixed doubles.
In the women's doubles, world No. 3 Latisha Chan is teaming up with Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, while her sister is playing with Yang Zhaoxuan of China.
