The number of tourists coming to Taiwan saw slight growth year-on-year in April. That's according to figures released by the tourism bureau on Friday.
The numbers show that 1.8% more travelers came to Taiwan in April than in the same month last year. This is also the first time the number of tourists has shown positive year-on-year growth since the beginning of the year.
Tourist numbers from Hong Kong showed the biggest growth at more than 70%, thanks to the tourism bureau's discount packages aimed specifically at Hong Kong. Arrivals from South Korea and Southeast Asian countries including Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines were also up significantly.
The number of visitors from mainland China has continued to drop. The number saw a 43% year-on-year dip in April. However, Chinese tourists still remain the large group of visitors to Taiwan.
