Indonesian woman dies in highway accident in Chiayi

Taipei, An Indonesian woman was killed Wednesday in a three-vehicle collision on a highway in Chiayi County, police said.

The accident on Highway 145 involved a truck and two cars, one of which was being driven by the new Indonesian immigrant surnamed Chen (?), who died shortly after she was rushed to a nearby hospital, police said.

Chang Chih-fu (???), head of the Singang Township police station, said footage from traffic cameras showed a white car entering the highway and hitting the side of the truck, which then swerved and struck the silver car Chen was driving in the opposite direction.

The truck flipped over and rolled into a rice field, while the two cars were extensively damaged, police said.

The truck driver and a passenger, along with Chen, sustained major injuries, while the two people in the white car were unhurt, Chang said.

The three injured people were rushed to a nearby hospital where Chen died shortly after, despite the doctors' efforts to save her, Chang said.

The police will conduct an investigation into the cause of the accident, Chang said.
