Japanese representative in Taiwan, Mikio Numata, will attend the unveiling of the new sign for the Taiwan-Japan Exchange Association. That was the word from Foreign Minister David Lee on Wednesday.
The Taiwan-Japan Exchange Association is the de facto Japanese embassy in the absence of a formal diplomatic relationship between the two nations. Earlier in March, the Cabinet approved the proposal to change the office's name from Interchange Association, Japan. The foreign ministry considers the move a show of the importance of the work the representative does in Taiwan.
Senior foreign ministry officials say that the unveiling ceremony is scheduled for May 17th, and that there will be invitations for members of the press.
