Taipei, Kinmen launched its first electronic bus stop display Friday, hoping to provide better public transportation services as part of its effort to become a digital and lowcarbon island, the county's Tourism Department said.
The introduction of the new service meant Kinmen is the first of Taiwan's three island counties to use a digital passenger information display and only the fourth of Taiwan's 22 cities and counties to install one after Taipei, Tainan and Taoyuan.
The 13.3inch wireless solar powered display, which provides real time information on bus schedules, arrival times, route maps and weather information, was launched Friday at the bus station in front of the Xinanmen Ward office, the Tourism Department said.
In the system's initial stage, the digital display will only be available at the Xinanmen and Shuitou Port bus stops, said Chen Chaochin secretarygeneral of the Kinmen County government.
Building a convenient public transportation network is one of the county's top priorities because of its emphasis on promoting tourism, Chen said, and the county is hoping both local residents and visitors from Taiwan proper and China's Fujian province will take advantage of the new display.
