KMT’s Huang Min-hui unseats DPP rival in Chiayi mayoral race

Taipei, Former Chiayi City Mayor Huang Min-hui (???) of the opposition Kuomintang declared victory in the city's mayoral race Saturday, beating incumbent Mayor Twu Shiing-jer (???) of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) by a slim margin.

Huang served as mayor of Chiayi from 2005 to 2014, and topped Twu by just over 6 percentage points to win re-election after her first term in 2009.

Huang served as a legislator from 1999 to 2005 and as vice chairperson of the Kuomintang from 2008 to 2016.

Twu won the 2014 Chiayi mayoral race after defeating KMT candidate Chen Yi-chen (???) by about 6 percentage points.

The other two in Saturday's mayoral race were Chiayi City Council Speaker Hsiao Shu-li (???), 51, who withdrew from the KMT to run as an independent and another independent Huang Hong-cheng (???).
