Some of Taiwan's top athletes made an appearance on Wednesday decked out in the 2017 Summer Universiade uniforms for Chinese Taipei, which is the official name of the Taiwan delegation. They were appearing at the invitation of the Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation, ahead of the games which will kick off in Taipei in August.
This year's uniforms, sponsored by Adidas, feature a creative design in the colors of the Taiwan flag red, blue and white. The athletes will be participating in a variety of different events, including two new Universiade events roller-skating and Wushu. Taiwan will also for the first time field competitors in water polo and billiards, which are exhibition events at this year's games.
One of the athletes at the event on Wednesay was male table tennis athlete Chiang Hung-chieh. He said he had his eyes on the gold, and was in particular hoping Chinese Taipei could walk away with the team gold.
"Perhaps I'll be a bit more nervous performing in Taiwan, but I'll be more excited too. I want to perform my best, and transform the pressure into the motivation to grab the gold medal," said Chiang.
