Magnitude 5.5 earthquake off Taiwan’s eastern coast

A magnitude 5.5 earthquake occurred at 5.55 a.m. Friday off the coast of eastern Taiwan's Hualien County, the Central Weather Bureau said. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located 70.9 kilometers to the east of Hualien county hall at a depth of 19.6 kilometers, the bureau said.

An intensity of 3 was felt in Yilan City in neighboring Yilan County and an intensity of 2 in parts of Taipei, New Taipei and Heping Township of Hualien County.
