Magnitude 6.0 quake jolts eastern Taiwan

Taipei, A magnitude 6.0 earthquake jolted eastern Taiwan at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday following a spat of earthquakes over the past few days, according to the Central Weather Bureau.

The epicenter of the earthquake was at sea about 18.3 kilometers north of Hualien County Hall at a depth of 10 km, the bureau's Seismology Center said.

The strongest tremor, which posted an intensity of 7, was felt in Hualien City and Nan'ao Township in Yilan County, according to the center.

The earthquake could be felt across Taiwan, with an intensity of 3 felt in Taipei.

Initial reports said at least 702 households were blacked out.
