Mars to appear brightest next month: museum

Taipei,  Stargazers will have a chance to see the planet Mars at its brightest on Oct. 14, when it is close to Earth, the Taipei Astronomical Museum said Tuesday.

The opposition of Mars, which occurs when the Earth is positioned between it and the sun, will offer the best view of the red planet, the museum said.

The celestial event, which takes place every two years, will also be the most significant of its kind for the next 15 years, it said.

Observation conditions should be ideal from late September to late October, and Mars will be visible with the naked eye throughout the night, as it rises at dusk from the east, the museum said.
