To expand the services for citizens, Keelung City Assistive Technology Resources Center has moved to No.5, Aly. 2, Ln. 251, Xinfeng St., Zhongzheng Dist., which is on the second floor of the Xinfeng market. Today the city government held unveiling ceremony for the center. Mayor Lin Youchang and Speaker Song Weili emphasized that this center is upgraded to provide more comprehensive services and benefit vast of people in need.
With the witness of local representatives and philanthropists, Mayor Lin, Speaker Song and Deputy Executive Manager of Eden Social Welfare Foundation unveiled the Assistive Technology Resources Center and expected that the center will give those physically-challenged a convenient and new life. Under the guidance of the center's employees, the mayor used the wheelchair to experience the life of those physically-challenged and realized the center's operation of high oxygen disinfection and maintenance.
The mayor indicated that there are more than 21,000 people who are disabled in the city, accounting for 5.6% of total population in Keelung City. The city government has provided services of assistive technology resources since 2004. To meet the increasing demand of assistive technology, Keelung City Assistive Technology Resources Center moved to the new site to provide better services for disabled citizens.
The mayor said that the assistive technology resources center had provided services for more than 5000 citizens from the beginning of the year to September, with an average of up to 500 per month. The center provides not only assistive technology like a wheelchair, powered stair climber, but also assessment, consulting, new assistant devices, and maintenance and recycling of the devices. They hope to take care of every citizen in need with the resources provided by the society.
