Memorial Service for King Rama IX Bhumibol of Thailand

While attending the Memorial Service for King Rama IX Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand held at the main lobby of the old Taoyuan Railways Station during noontime of October 16th 2016, Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan expressed that Taoyuan has had a close relationship with Southeast Asian countries. Unfortunately, King Rama IX Bhumibol of Thailand passed away on October 13th 2016. In response to this tragedy, the Taoyuan City Government furnished the main lobby of the old Taoyuan Railways Station to host the memorial service for members of the Thai community from October 16th to 30th, 2016.

Mayor Cheng expressed that King Rama IX Bhumibol of Thailand was much beloved by the people. His death on October 13th 2016 sent the entire nation into great sorrow. There are over 16,000 Thai workers in Taoyuan and 3,000 new immigrant families of Thai descent. Taoyuan City Government is working closely with the Thailand Trade and Economic Office (Taipei) to acquire a portrait of King Rama IX and secure authorization to use his image. The main lobby of Taoyuan Old Station, one of the favorite gathering place of Thai workers, was refurnished to host a memorial service for the late King so that Thai workers and families with spouses of Thai descent can come and pay their respects.

Mayor Cheng said that the Taoyuan City has a close relationship with Southeast Asian countries, and encourages companies in Taoyuan City to provide a suitable location so that their Thai employees can express their grief for their deceased King.

Friends from Thailand also began singing Song for the King at the venue to express their sorrow. Attendants to the event included Deputy Minister Liau Huei-Fang of the Ministry of Labor, Thailand Trade and Economic Office Labor Division (Taipei) Director Lupthawan Walsh, Taoyuan City Deputy Mayor Wang Ming-Teh and Taoyuan City Government Director-general Wang An-Pang of the Department of Labor.
