Middle East countries added to e-visa program

The foreign ministry announced on Friday an expansion of the e-visa program to include nationals from nine more countries. They are Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, Montenegro, and Dominica. The Philippines is being included in the program on a trial basis for one year.

The e-visa program allows for eligible foreign visitors to apply for Taiwan visas online. The program was launched by the government in January as part of efforts to boost tourism. The ministry said the latest expansion is aimed at attracting Muslim tourists to visit the country.

Before the expansion, the program included nationals from 27 countries, mostly those with diplomatic relations with Taiwan. The program also includes foreign visitors invited to attend international conferences, competitions or trade shows.

The ministry said that it will periodically expand the program to include other countries.
