NT$83.9bn earmarked for infrastructure plan phase one

The National Development Council (NDC) has earmarked NT$83.9 billion (US$2.8 billion) for the first stage of the government’s infrastructure project.

The budget will be used to finance railway development, aquatic environments, green energy and urban-rural development.

NDC deputy minister Kung Ming-hsin said Friday that money needed for newly added items is also included in the budget. Those items are: a childcare-friendly environment, a lab for food and drug experiments, and a program to improve training at vocational schools.

Kung said the budget is for the first stage only.

The Cabinet is expected to review the budget next Monday before submitting it to the legislature. Lawmakers have already passed a statute governing the infrastructure project.
