President hit by falling board, unharmed

President Tsai Ing-wen (???) was hit by a falling advertising board while addressing an event in Taoyuan Monday, but was unharmed.

The accident occurred at a ground-breaking ceremony to inaugurate work on a social housing project in the city.

As Tsai was speaking on the stage, the board that was part of her backdrop fell down and hit the president on the head.

Security guards immediately moved forward to straighten up the board, which was said to be made of lightweight polystyrene foam, as a startled Tsai quickly resumed her speech.

According to Presidential Office spokesman Alex Huang (???), the incident was probably caused by a failure by the organizers to properly fasten the board to its support.

The president was not affected, and the organizers have apologized for the incident, he said.
