Taipei--President Tsai Ing-wen (???) on Monday continued her tour of temples around Taiwan to ask for blessings from the gods and hand out red envelopes on the third day of the 2017 Lunar New Year.
Tsai visited Fengyuan Tzu Chi Temple in Taichung City in the morning, where she made an offering of incense and prayed for the blessings of the temple god.
Her presence attracted a stream of temple visitors who queued up to receive red envelopes, a symbol of good luck, from the president.
Tsai later visited temples in Changhua, Yunlin and Chiayi where she prayed and handed out red envelopes containing a NT$1 coin to visitors at those places of worship.
The outside of the envelope was decorated with a rooster motif to mark the Year of the Rooster and the signatures of Tsai and Vice President Chen Chien-jen (???).
