Pro-Taiwan group in Europe launches Twitter account

Brussels-The Formosa Club, established in 2019 by pro-Taiwan groups in the European Parliament and the parliaments of 13 European countries, opened a Twitter account Monday to support Taiwan on the basis of shared values and help it connect with the world.

Several members of the group expressed their support for Taiwan in pre-recorded videos posted on the new Twitter feed.

European Parliament-Taiwan Friendship Group Chairman Michael Gahler said the Twitter account will serve as a platform for the Formosa Club's members to exchange information and inform each other on how to support Taiwan.

Klaus-Peter Willsch, chairman of the German-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group, lauded Taiwan as a beacon of democracy, rule of law and freedom.

"People of Taiwan can be rightfully proud of this," he said, and pledged that he and all friends of Taiwan will do everything in their power to help Taiwan.

Francois De Rugy, chairman of the France-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group, said he believed the new account will serve as an important platform for safeguarding the democratic values shared by France and Taiwan.

Georges Dallemagne, co-president of the Belgium-Taiwan Friendship Group, said "Taiwan is at the forefront of threats coming from China, but we are all facing threats coming from China. So we all need this very strong and good cooperation."

"From today, the support of European Parliamentarians, including Slovaks, for Taiwan will be stronger than before," added Peter Osusky, chairman of the Slovak-Taiwanese Parliamentary Friendship Group.

In a pre-recorded video, Taiwan's Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (???) said that since the Formosa Club's establishment in October 2019, it has been a strong supporter of Taiwan on numerous international occasions.

"Its recent letter to the WHO director-general in support of Taiwan's participation in the WHO, is truly a morale booster for the people of Taiwan, and we are deeply grateful for that," Wu said.

Wu said he looked forward to the timely discussion of Taiwan-related issues on this platform.

The pro-Taiwan Formosa Club now includes over 100 parliamentarians from the European Parliament and the national Parliaments of Belgium, Czechia, Estonia, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
