Taipei--There are chances of rain throughout Taiwan Friday, especially in northern and northeastern Taiwan, where there may be heavy downpours and thunder, the Central Weather Bureau said.
Compared with the past few days, temperature have gone up as the cold air mass that has affected Taiwan is weakening, the bureau said.
Highs around noon could reach 23 to 25 degrees Celsius in central Taiwan and Hualien County in the east, 26 to 28 degrees in southern Taiwan and Taitung County in the southeast, it said.
In northern Taiwan, where more rain is in the forecast than the rest of Taiwan, highs will likely go up to no more than 18 degrees, it said.
The relative unstable weather in the northern part of the country is attributed to moisture moving in from southern China and a weather front near Taiwan, according to the weather bureau.
In a heavy rain alert, the bureau warned that heavy downpours could occur in Taipei, New Taipei and Keelung during the day.
Air quality in central, southern Taiwan and the offshore county of Kinmen is expected to be unhealthy for sensitive groups, such as young children, the elderly and those suffering from a chronic disease.
