Taipei--The cold air mass that has brought low temperatures and rain to Taiwan will weaken Friday, ushering in nicer and warmer weather this weekend, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said Thursday.
Until then, people living in northern Taiwan especially had to put up with another cold day Thursday and the moisture would make it feel colder than the temperature indicated.
Early morning temperatures in areas north of Taichung and in Yilan were 14 to 15 degrees and the mercury is not expected to go up to more than 18 degrees, the bureau said.
According to the CWB, chances of rain Thursday ranged between 70 percent and 90 percent in northern Taiwan, 60 percent and 70 percent in Yilan County in northeastern Taiwan and up to 30 percent in other areas.
The rain is expected to taper off Friday afternoon and temperatures will gradually go up.
For Saturday, northern Taiwan could see a little bit of sunshine on a mostly cloudy day while the weather in central and southern Taiwan is expected to be cloudy to sunny. There will be chances of brief local showers in eastern Taiwan.
On Sunday, eastern Taiwan could again see some local showers and there could also be sporadic precipitation in the western half of the island but no temperature drop is in the forecast.
