Taipei-Northern and eastern Taiwan will experience significant rainfall on Wednesday because of northeasterly winds and should expect a cold weekend as a strong cold air mass approaches, according to the Central Weather Bureau.
The bureau has issued an extremely heavy rain warning for Yilan County in northeastern Taiwan and a heavy rain warning for Taipei, New Taipei and Keelung, CWB forecaster Liu Yu-chi (???) said.
The mercury will hover between 16 to 20 degrees Celsius in the north, 16 to 24 degrees in central Taiwan and 17 to 27 degrees in the south, said Liu, who urged people to beware of sharp changes in temperatures.
As for the weekend, the strongest cold wave of this winter so far will approach Taiwan on Saturday, sending temperatures on Sunday night and in the early hours of Monday as low as 11-12 degrees, with the possibility of snow on high mountains, Liu forecast.
