Taipei-Four cities and counties in southern Taiwan announced school and office closures for Saturday, when Tropical Storm Bailu is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain to the island.
As of 8:40 p.m. Friday, the cities and counties that had announced closures for Saturday are Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County and Taitung County, according to the Directorate-General of Personnel Administration.
As of 8:30 p.m., Bailu was located at sea about 452 kilometers southeast of Taiwan, moving at a speed of 29 kilometers per hour in a northwesterly direction, according to data from the Central Weather Bureau.
It was packing maximum sustained winds of 100.8 kph, with gusts of up to 126 kph, the bureau said, and its eye was expected to cut across the southernmost part of Taiwan.
