The CEO of Sky Team, one of the world's leading airline alliances, says cross-strait flights are still needed despite cooling relations between Taiwan and China. Perry Cantarutti was speaking Monday at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) annual meeting in Cancun, Mexico.
Cantarutti told Taiwan's Central News Agency that the current political situation is like the weather, which will change. He said he believes the recent decline in demand for cross-strait flights will only be temporary. Moreover, he said airlines on both sides still maintain a high level of cooperation.
Cantarutti also said that Sky Team does not rule out the possibility of adding budget airlines to the alliance due to their popularity.
