Taipei-The weather around Taiwan and the offshore island of Penghu will be mostly sunny Monday, with chances of showers and thunderstorms in some parts of the country, the Central Weather Bureau forecast.
Under the influence of a strengthening Pacific high pressure system, southeastern Taiwan, the Hengchun Peninsula in the southernmost county of Pingtung, and the offshore Kinmen and Matsu islands could expect passing showers or thunderstorms, the bureau said.
Central and southern Taiwan and mountainous areas of the country will also see occasional afternoon thundershowers, according to the bureau.
Meanwhile, the daytime temperature in northern Taiwan is expected to hit a high of 36 degrees Celsius, while in other areas it will hover between 32 and 35 degrees, the bureau said.
It advised people to take precautions against sunburn and heat stroke and drink lots of water when outdoors.
The bureau also advised the public to avoid seaside activities in the coastal areas of southern and southeastern Taiwan, the Hengchun Peninsula, and the offshore islands of Penghu and Kinmen, warning that rouge waves could be expected in those areas.
