The central Taiwan city of Taichung has been selected as one of the global venues for L'Etape du Tour, a race for amateur cyclists.
Since Tour de France introduced L'Etape du Tour in 1993, races have been held in ten different countries. This is the first time that an affiliated race will be held in Taiwan.
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Lawmaker Lo Chih-cheng, the ambassador of the event, said on Monday that it's an honor for Taiwan to be chosen as one of the 14 world venues.
Lo said the word Taiwan and the national flag will be used on the logo for the Taichung race.
There is no need to be bound to the Olympics format of using the name 'Chinese Taipei.' This time [our] participation in such an important global event will be under the name 'Taiwan'. I believe that Taiwan's beauty and its very existence will be seen through the event," said Lo. "There will also be a live broadcast along with other host countries.Taiwan is keeping pace with the world.
The Taiwan leg of L'Etape du Tour will take place on September 17th.
