The 2016 Hot Spring Season will kick off on Oct. 20 and run until Oct. 24 in Beitou, a hot spring area in Taipei.
This year, several activities will be held in the plaza outside MRT Xinbeitou Station, Cising Park and Beitou Park. These will include bathrobe design and singing competitions, painting Japanese folding fans, a performance by Taiwanese opera troupe Ming Hwa Yuan, a parade with gods arriving in sedan chairs, a raffle and street food stalls offering Taiwanese delicacies.
This year Pepper, the humanoid robot from SoftBank, will make an appearance during the activities and a mobile app has been developed to offer visitors special offers at local spas and hot springs, according to the Taipei Hot Springs Association, the event organizer.
